Flyers and leaflets that get handed around Walthamstow

We print a lot of flyers, and the ones that work have less on them than the ones that do not. A flyer gets somewhere between one and two seconds in someone's hand. That is enough for one message, not five.

One thing, big. The offer, the date, or the name of the event, whichever is the reason someone would keep it. If the headline needs reading twice, it is too long. Everything else is supporting detail.

Readable at arm's length, not at 100% zoom. Body text below 8pt is hard work on paper in a way it is not on screen, because you cannot zoom. 9pt to 10pt is a safer floor for anything you actually want read. Print your design at home first and hold it at arm's length. It takes thirty seconds and it is the most useful check you can do.

Leave the edges alone. Same 3mm bleed and 4mm safe margin as any trimmed job. Phone numbers set too near the edge are the most common casualty.

Think about which side lands face up. If they are going on a counter, the design needs to work face up from above. If they are being handed out, the front does the work. If they are going through doors, remember it will be seen folded on a doormat.

The price difference is real and worth understanding. 100 A5 flyers are £50 on the 3 to 4 day turnaround and £70 same day. That is £20 for speed.

Same day makes sense when a date is fixed and close: a gig on Friday, a market stall this weekend, a school fair where the posters went up late. Book before 12pm and they are ready the same afternoon, and we will give you a collection time rather than a vague "later today". The 3 to 4 day price makes sense for anything you are planning, such as a menu drop, a new business launch or a seasonal promotion. If you can see the date coming, take the slower option and put the £20 into more flyers or heavier stock.

Standard stock is 130gsm gloss, which is the right weight for handing out and posting through doors. If the flyer is doubling as something people keep, such as a price list, a class timetable or a takeaway menu for the fridge, step up to 200gsm or 250gsm and it stops feeling disposable.
